IT-Exchange.org IT Services scheme

IT-Exchange.org was created to ensure that professional IT support and services are easily and cheaply available for community organisations and projects.

In certain circumstances IT-Exchange.org may be able to contribute towards some or all costs associated with an individual project. Our main objective is to supply IT solutions, not to generate profits.

Off-site work is carried out in the technical facilities we share with Cracked-it, which consist of a build room with custom benches running 10/100MB test network. We also have a conference & computer room used for research and development.
Our internal network features 8 Microsoft workstations connected to a secure and stable Linux Samba server :) For Internet and email we use a permanent 500KB ADSL connection.

Currently IT and on-site set-up/repair services are only available in parts of Hampshire and West Sussex

Charges
IT-Exchange.org contracts selected organisations and individuals to carry out work on its behalf. The maximum rate that IT-exchange pays for contracted services is

£18.00 per hour for on-site visits (travelling expenses will also be covered)
£14.00 per hour for off-site IT services

Design and installation of networks
Our network services start at cable design and installation and include

Peer to peer networks using Microsoft Windows95-98

Installation and configuring of Microsoft NT4 Server, Linux and Microsoft Small Business Server.

Deployment of office wide shared Internet and email facilities. Internet site filtering and web site visit logging. Advice on ADSL, ISDN and ISP connection availability and benefits/shortcoming of each technology.

Equipment maintenance, repairs and upgrades
These services include

Fitting of new components, such as hard drives, RAM, motherboards and modems

Electronic repairs to monitors, power supplies etc.

Installation of operating systems and applications, such as Microsoft Windows95-98, Linux, Windows NT, Star Office and Microsoft Office 97/2000.

On site maintenance programs to ensure printer, workstation and server stability. Electrical safety testing (PAT) and certification.

Training
We can provide individual or group training for all aspects of PC use, such as

General PC use and user maintenance

Internet and email, Internet Explorer and Outlook Express5, Favourites, sending links and retrieving data.

Operating systems and applications, Microsoft Windows95-98, Microsoft Office 97/2K Works. Access97/2000 Database design and construction.

We can also train members of staff or volunteers to maintain computer systems and networks. The training can include backup, antiviral strategies, user management and hardware troubleshooting and maintenance.

Web design, hosting, graphic design. Email and Internet configuration and domain name registration.
We offer a complete of range of design services that covers logos, letterheads, and business cards to adverts and web sites.

Our start to finish web site design service can include name registration, mail server management and site hosting.

Using Perl/CGI, PHP, Java and MySQL, we can provide web sites with advanced facilities, such as databases, password-protected areas, guest books and chat and forum rooms.

Combining technical skill with professional graphical design, the finished site looks as good as it works. Advanced graphic formats supported include Flash and DHTML.
