The
scheme functions by supplying restored and re-marketed redundant IT
equipment and is designed to satisfy many issues.
It assures that high quality IT equipment is available, regardless
of financial ability and that valuable equipment is not dumped pointlessly
into our environment. Re-use is the best form of recycling.
Specifications
The minimum base unit specification supplied by IT-exchange.org in
the UK is a Pentium P133, 32MB memory and a 500MB hard drive. All
our systems are capable of running Window95\Microsoft Office97 and
can be configured for Internet and email use. CD-ROM's, soundcards,
network cards, printers and scanners can be fitted to all base units
if required.
The highest specification we currently supply is P233MMX, 64MB and
a 2100MB hard drive.
Lower specification systems, such as 486's and early Pentiums are
prepared and donated to charity projects in Tanzania and Ghana.
Equipment Details
Redundant equipment is collected and put through an extensive overhaul,
test and clean process. All mains powered equipment must pass an electrical
safety test (PAT) to ensure we supply a safe product. Tested equipment
can be instantly deployed in an office environment without raising
Health & Safety issues.
Additional accessories such as a CD-ROM, sound card, modem and a licensed
operating system can be added to system units at the client's request.
If required, systems can be pre-configured for use on a network and
supplied with a network card.
All systems that are supplied with pre-configured software are extensively
tested to ensure a quality product. All Microsoft Windows software
installed has been updated with current service packs and upgrades
to aid system stability and function. Internet Explorer and Outlook
Express 5 are installed on systems with drives larger than 500MB.
Systems with Modems are tested on the Internet and have default Internet
account pre-installed for immediate web access.
On most systems Norton Anti-virus is pre-installed to counter malicious
software attacks.
Computer systems are supplied with all relevant cables, driver and
reference disks.
When a system is ready for dispatch, it can be collected, or delivery
can be arranged using TNT (estimated delivery cost for a system: £18.00).
All systems have a 6 month warranty, click
here for details
Not for profit pricing structure
Most base units we collect do not have CD-ROMS, soundcards, modems
or operating system licenses, we have to purchase new. New components
are passed on at our trade cost plus delivery charges and VAT. The pricing structure for
system unit and monitor is based on the bulk trade price cost of 20
units.
